SPECIAL WORK SESSION MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, May 18, 2006

A special work session meeting of the Board of Education was held on Thursday, May 18, 2006, in the Administration Building, 379 Boulevard, Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by President, Mr. Ruroede.

Mr. Ruroede read the following statement:

"Pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Meeting Act, Public Law 1975, Chapter 231, the Board Secretary caused notice of this meeting to be given to the public and the press on May 10, 2006".

Roll Call was taken by Joseph T. Bellino, School Business Administrator/Board Secretary, and the following members responded to their names:

Present - Mrs. Ciocia, Mrs. Hodulik, Mr. DeLorenzo, Mr. Parodi, Mrs. Doheny, Mr. Ruroede, Mr. Giarratana, Mr. Salerno

Absent None

Also Present: Mr. Luongo, Mr. Bellino, Mr. Dorsey, Mr. Semrau

The following resolutions were moved by Mr. DeLorenzo, Seconded by Mr. Salerno:

RESOLUTION: Whereas, the Board of Education developed assumptions, constraints, and
5-019-03 priorities to guide the Superintendent in preparing a budget for the 2006-2007 school year, and,

Whereas, the voters of Hasbrouck Heights at the Annual School Election, held on April 18, 2006 defeated the proposed budget; and,

Whereas, pursuant to NJAC 6A:23-8.10 the Mayor and Borough Council reviewed the budget and made recommendations to reduce the school district budget by a total of $200,000 as follows:

Whereas, the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education recognizes and acknowledges the recommendations of the Borough Council. However, the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education, pursuant to the authority vested in NJAC 6A:23-8.10, exercises the right to reallocate the budget reduction of $200,000 at the discretion of the Board of Education in the best interest of the district reflective of the assessed priority needs of the district upon the recommendations of the district administration as follows:

Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved that the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education approves the following final budget for the 2006-2007 school year:

Debt Service Fund 764,947 550,690

Be It Further Resolved, that the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education approves the request for Statutory Growth Limitation Adjustments in the following categories and amounts for the 2006-2007 school year, said adjustments are needed in the coming school year and will be completed by the end of the budget year and cannot be deferred or incrementally completed over a longer period of time:

Enrollment $159,228
Pupil Transportation 975
Special Education 159,149

Be It Further Resolved, that the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education, pursuant to NJAC 6A: 23B, hereby establishes a maximum expenditure for the 2006-2007 school year of $12,000 for travel by board members, administration and staff to workshops, seminars, meetings, training sessions or other assemblies deemed necessary or appropriate in accordance with board policy, and

Be It Further Resolved, that the Superintendent and Board Secretary are hereby directed to submit this revised budget and all required support documentation to the County Superintendent as required by law.

RESOLUTION: Be It Resolved that, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools,
5-020-06 the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education approve the following job descriptions:

1. Special Education Assistant - Medically Fragile Student(s)
2. Special Education Assistant - Severe Multiple Disabilities

RESOLUTION: Whereas, in accordance with the provisions of the New Jersey Open Public
PS-012-06 Meetings Act the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education wishes to meet in Private Session for the purpose of discussing matters of a confidential nature relating to
personnel and legal matters. .

Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, that the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education adjourn to Private Session for the purpose of discussing such matters, and

Be It Further Resolved, that the public be informed of these matters as soon as the need to remain confidential is no longer necessary at a future date to be determined.

Meeting adjourned to private session at 8:31 p.m.

Meeting was reopened at 10:05 p.m.

Meeting was adjourned at 10:45 p.m.
