MINUTES OF
KEY COMMUNICATORS MEETING
MONDAY, January 23, 2006

Present:            Joe Luongo, Edwinna Carroll, Donna Wipper, Linda Condal,   Cathy Meseck, Connie Doheny, Mary Nicolette, Cheryl Cutrizzulo, Marrie Messeri, Nancy Smith, Ellen Connors, Lizz Nuzzo, Samantha Kalmowitz, Lynn Nilsson, Linda Simmons, Harriet Eisenberg and the Realignment Task Force Committee

Joe Luongo opened the meeting at 7:35 PM.

The Realignment Task Force gave a preview of the presentation which will proposed at the January 26th Board of Education Meeting.  There was a presentation of the Pros by Nancy Smith and of the Cons by Connie Doheny.  There was no vote or decision taken at this meeting.  After the January 27th presentation, Mr. Luongo is asking the PTA’s to present this report at their February meeting and take a straw poll.

High School & Middle School:

Dress Code - A student did contact the ACLU regarding his wearing a skirt or dress to school.  This issue was resolved.  The student is allowed to wear a skirt or dress as long as the length of the dress is within the school dress code and the skirt or dress is not a costume.  Mr. Luongo asked the ACLU to review the district’s dress code.  One possible problem that the ACLU foresaw was the girls being allowed to wear sleeveless tops. Therefore the dress code will have a first reading of the revised code.  In the new dress code, sleeveless shirts for the high school and middle school must extend to the end of the shoulder.  Also, sleeveless basketball type jerseys are permissible if worn over an acceptable shirt.

Chaperone code – There will be a second reading of this policy.
Grades 7th & 8th Honors Math - At the month’s board meeting they will approve a revision to the criteria for honors math.
Overnight trips - An administrator is required on all overnight trips. Mr. Luongo will be able to appoint an administrator and that person will be compensated.  The administrator will be reimbursed the amount of $200.00 per trip or receive one comp day per trip to be taken at their discretion within a year of the trip.

Elementary Schools:

Lincoln School Principal – Mr. Ciccone has resigned effective February 21st.  The job has been posted and several people have already been interviewed once.  Tentatively, a special Board meeting is scheduled for January 30th to interview and possible hire a new principal.

Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 13, 2006 at 7:30 PM.
Meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM.
