MINUTES OF
KEY COMMUNICATORS MEETING
Monday, March 24, 2008

Present:  Joe Luongo, Connie Doheny, Lizz Nuzzo, Vicky Viola, Marnie Messeri, Lynn Nilsson, Josephine Ciocia, Lillian Romano, Lisa Hodulik,  Darlene Hauptman, Donna Wipper, Jodi O’Connor

Joe Luongo opened the meeting at 7:35 PM.

District:

Lice policy revisions- no nit policy - Mr. Calandrillo, Director of Special Services, will be introducing a policy to the special education committee on Wednesday.

Rechecks – entire Lincoln School - Rechecks would have to be the entire district.  That decision would be up to the Board to make as the approximate cost is $5,000.

Establish routine head checks - Parents asked for routine head checks to be done as part of Board policy.  Some districts check for head lice twice a year just as a child would have a dental screening, height, weight etc.  Mr. Luongo said he would pass this on to the necessary committee to discuss making it a common practice.

RenWeb – Parents asked why we are not using RenWeb for calendar corrections, email notifications, such as the Board of Education Budget Presentation Meeting.  Mr. Luongo said that is an excellent idea; also next year we will have an automated phone chain which will also help in notifications to parents.  Parents asked if RenWeb can have an entire district wide school calendar on it and updated constantly; perhaps even include practices for different clubs and sports.

Sports Foundation Form – who approved it? -  Mr. Luongo approved the form as it is a non profit organization.  He explained the Board policy is to only send out notices from non profit organizations.

Budget -  Mr. Luongo discussed the proposed budget briefly as the presentation was already held on March 18th.

Field Trips - There was some discussion regarding an Italian Class trip to the Wax Museum as to how that is related to an Italian curriculum.  That trip will be on the agenda at Thursday’s meeting for the Board to approve or disapprove.

School Calendar 2008-2009 - There was a lot of discussion regarding the proposed calendar for the next school.  Parents were concerned that the children have a lot of days off especially in December.  The only month that theirs seems to be consistency is March.  Parents were concerned that this calendar may not be educational sound and a concern for test grades, material retention and standardized test scores.  This calendar is on the agenda for Thursday night for the Board to approve as is or make revisions.

Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 14, 2008 at 7:30 PM.
Meeting adjourned at   8:55 PM.
