MINUTES OF
KEY COMMUNICATORS MEETING
Tuesday, April 24, 2008
Present: Joe
Luongo, Connie Doheny, Lizz Nuzzo, Marnie Messeri,
Lynn Nilsson, Josephine Ciocia, Lillian Romano, Lisa Hodulik, Donna
Wipper
Joe
Luongo opened the meeting at 7:35 PM.
District:
Budget – If the school budget fails all non tenure
staff will receive pink slips. Mr. Luongo sent a letter
to all kindergarten parents explaining what the budget is about
and urging them to go out and vote. Mrs. Cassidy meets
with 12th grade students and gives the voter registration cards. Any
senior who wishes to vote can leave school as long as they have
a note from their parent and it is the parent’s choice
to return to school. This met with some disagreement from
the parents attending this meeting. Parents felt that since
the polls were open from 7AM – 9PM there was plenty of
time for a student to vote and not an educational sound decision
to give them time off to vote and the option to return to school.
A data base is kept of pervious graduates and letters sent to
them urging them to vote for the budget.
Distribution of Materials - There will be a revised first
reading of a policy entitled “Distribution of Materials
by Pupils and Staff”. Non profit organization identification
number will be required in order to distribute materials throughout
the school. The Chief School Administrator has the authority
to approve all flyers/bulletins/announcements that organizations
submit to distribute to students and parents providing certain
criteria are met.
Pediculosis Management Resolution _- There will be a first
reading of a head lice/nits policy on April 17th. There
will be a district wide head lice screening at the beginning
of the school year. Random screenings will be held the first
week of January and first week after spring recess of each year
by the Nurse or designated trained personnel.
Lincoln School:
Writing Folders - A
parent had asked Mr. Forte for their child’s writing folder in order to review and help their
child. Mr. Forte said that they were not allowed to go
home. Mr. Luongo said parent should be allowed to see folders
or make copies for the parent. Mr. Luongo will speak with
Mr. Forte.
Middle School:
Washington
DC Trip -
Parent questioned why a paraprofessional went to Washington DC
trip when this paraprofessional is assigned to a sixth grade
student. This paraprofessional has an
eighth grade child and went for free on the trip and was paid
a salary by the district. Parents stated that there were
plenty of volunteer parents who would have liked to gone on the
trip and would have paid their own way. Mr. Luongo said that
he would look into this matter; he assumed she went in the capacity
of staff for some reason.
Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 19, 2008 at 7:30 PM.
Meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM.
