Curriculum Instruction- Due to the short month, October's report will be combined with Novemeber's activities.           

 

Workshops -

High School - None
Middle School-  None
Euclid School -
9/29/05 – Ms. DeFilppis, Miss Hrablook, and Mrs. Searle participated in an all day NJASK mathematics workshop in Clinton, NJ.
10/03/05 – Mrs. Grossano provided the staff with an after school training on children with diabetes.
10/07/05 – All Euclid School instructional staff participated in workshops all day that were sponsored by the South Bergen Jointure Commission.  Workshops included topics such as Internet Resources, Discrete Mathematics, The Power of Art, 504 Accommodations, Differentiated Instruction, Preparing for NJASK, Effective Instructional Strategies, Dealing with Bullying, Cooperative Learning Strategies,
10/10/05 – Euclid School staff engaged in district facilitated in service professional development sessions.  Overall, teachers in grades 3-5 participated in a science workshop or a math workshop focusing on operations with fractions.  Teachers in grades K-2 spent the morning examining open-ended problem solving skills.  In the afternoon, newly hired teachers received training in Classlink, while the rest of the elementary staff attended a workshop on brain based learning.

 

Lincoln School -
09-29-05: Mrs. LaTorre, Mrs. McGreevy, Ms. Roche, and Mrs. Young participated in an all day NJASK 3 & 4 mathematics workshop in Clinton, NJ.
09-29-05: Mrs. Valenti attended a ½ day workshop facilitated by the NJDOE regarding APA testing in special education.
10-07-05: All Lincoln School instructional staff participated in workshops all day that were sponsored by the Southern Bergen Count Jointure Commission.
10-10-05: Lincoln School staff engaged in district facilitated in service professional development sessions.  Overall, teachers in grades 3-5 participated in a science workshop in the morning; except for mathematics teachers who participated in an ‘operations with fractions’ workshop at the high school.  K-2 teachers spent the morning examining strategies to more effectively teach open ended problem solving skills.  The majority of the elementary teaching staff participated in a brain based learning workshop in the afternoon except for newly hired teacher, who participated in Classlink 2000 technology training.

Euclid School -
9/30/05 – Lieutenant Mullins provided bicycle safety instruction for 5th grade students as permission slips went home during the week of October 3rd permitting 5th graders to ride their bicycles to school with parental permission.
10/05/05 – School pictures were taken.
10/05/05 – HH Public Library representative Mrs. Nickles distributed certificates for the students who participated in the Summer Reading Program.
10/11/05 – HH Fire Department representatives visitation to Euclid School for Fire Prevention Week from 10:00 – 1:00.
Week of 10/11/05 Fire Prevention Week

  1. Teachers will complete lessons and indicate them in their plan books related to fire safety.
  2. Physical education teachers will practice stop, drop, and roll.
  3. Fire drill and lock down procedures will be practiced

Week of 10/17/05: Violence Awareness Week Activities

  1. Students will participate in 3 lessons facilitated by the classroom teacher related to “Stranger Safety, Bullying, and Conflict Resolution”.
  2. 2.  In Art class the students will make hands while discussing the importance of finding peaceful resolutions
  3. The physical education teachers will address conflict resolution and sportsmanship throughout the week during physical education classes.
  4. All students in grades K-4 will participate in an assembly called, “Officer Phil” on Friday.  Parents are invited to attend the assembly in the gymnasium as indicated below:  Euclid School :  9:30 K-2; 10:15 3-5
  5. Lieutenant Mullins will meet with the students in grades 3-5 to discuss bullying and conflict resolution.
  6. Packets sent home to the parents with a letter similar to this communication containing strategies for dealing with bullying, stranger safety, and conflict resolution.

10/06/05 – First marking period progress reports were sent home to students in grades 2-5.

10-06-05: Lincoln School back-To-School-Night was held from 7 PM until 8:30 PM.  The evening was a huge success thanks to excellent teacher presentations and parent participation.

Week of 10/10/05: Fire Prevention Week Activities
1.  Pre-K and kindergarten students read about firemen and fire trucks.  HHFD visited them on 10-13-05 and provided information about fire safety as well as a tour of the fire truck.
2.  Students in grades 1-3 had a visit form the HHFD and discussed fire safety and prevention on 10-13-05.
3.  Students in grades 4&5 read and discussed stories about fire safety provided by HHFD.
4.  Physical education classes included the ‘stop drop and roll’ strategy.
5.  Fire drill practice was completed at all grade levels.
